Fairina Cheng in the jewellery workshop

I used AI to write this headline (but not to tell your love story)

When tech can generate art, music and even "personalised" jewellery at the click of a button, it's worth asking: Can artificial intelligence help a jeweller do better, without losing what makes their work human?

Let's be clear: I love AI. I use it every day. It helps me work faster, explore ideas more freely and (admittedly) put thoughts into words that actually make sense to other humans.

Writing an article like this used to take over eight hours of painstaking drafting, editing and overthinking. Now, if I'm lucky, it takes three.

And yes, I know AI can write a generic article in seconds, but I have too much pride in my business to let that fly.

I'm grateful for AI. But I've also learned where to draw the line when it comes to connection.

Real connection can't be automated.

Take a seat robots

When we design a piece together, here's what it actually looks like:

I listen, ask questions and sketch designs live. I notice the pause before you tell me what this piece really means to you. I read between the lines when you're not quite sure how to explain it.

And when the sketch feels like you, you'll feel it too.

Here's where I might use AI:

  • Generating mockups from hand-drawn designs
  • Brainstorming articles (like the one you're reading)
  • Clarifying my thoughts so I can communicate more clearly
  • Planning behind the scenes, so I can be more present with you in the studio

What I'll never hand over to AI:

  • Sketching in real time to bring your ideas to life
  • Designing with empathy and intuition
  • Trusting my gut when the concept clicks
  • Holding space for the messy, emotional, beautiful parts of your story

Why story is the part that matters most

Over more than a decade of creating custom jewellery, I've learned something: The guided design journey, and the stories that come of it, are what turn jewellery into a keepsake.

It goes beyond picking the perfect gem or the most flattering shape for your finger.

It comes from your story woven into every curve. The hidden meaning behind the sapphire you chose. And the way your eyes light up when you read the engraving on the band.

When we create with story in mind, the end result is a piece of jewellery that couldn't have been made for anyone else.

But wait... Can AI and humans actually work together?

Yes they can, without compromising the heart of what makes custom jewellery personal.

Sometimes, you're just not ready to talk to a real person. You want to explore an idea on your own terms, but you just don't know where to begin.

That's why I created a way to make that first step feel easy.

Meet Storysmith

Storysmith is an AI-powered tool that generates creative text-based suggestions for your engagement ring, based on your story.

I built it because I saw how overwhelming the engagement ring process can be. The pressure. The endless Pinterest boards. The fear of getting it wrong.

Storysmith takes the pressure off by making that first step simple. In less than five minutes, it helps uncover the moments that matter and turns them into a starting point for your design.

However, while Storysmith can generate ideas, the real magic happens in the consult. That's when I take what you've shared and turn it into a design that was made for you.

See just how personal your ring can be

Try Storysmith - a 5-minute quiz that could lead to the most personal ring you've ever imagined.

If you're excited to get started, book a consult and let's design something beautiful together.
