We're not perfect - we'll be the first to admit that. But we're committed to constantly improving our processes. The information on this page will continue to evolve as we do.
SUSTAINABILITY TIP
Create new jewellery from preloved materials
Ever wondered what to do with grandma’s old rings that aren’t quite your style? Creating new pieces from heirlooms is a great way to turn your treasures into beautiful, environmentally friendly jewellery. No new gems or metals need to be mined and it ticks all the boxes of Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
JEWELLERY EDUCATION
What is an ethical gemstone, really?
With so many businesses making bold claims around ethics and sustainability, how can you tell the difference between clever marketing and genuine conscious consumerism when choosing a gemstone?

Sapphires and stories
“Off the shelf” was never something that Lloyd imagined for Jo. An ethically-made, storytelling ring was a priority. He chose a 1.91ct sapphire, mined in Inverell and cut on the Gold Coast. Recycled gold was donated by his future father-in-law. Lab created diamonds were star-set on each side, inspired by a vintage ring that Jo loved. Each detail was carefully considered over several months and all the hard work paid off. Jo was ecstatic, and of course, said yes!

Sustainability is important to Liz. To match her vintage engagement ring, we made a wedding band in recycled gold and Australian platinum from a Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certified supplier that upholds rigorous human rights, labour, supply chain and environmental standards. Reclaimed from antique rings, her diamonds bring old-world charm and a nothing-new approach, making them perfect the companions to vintage jewels.

We love creating new designs from pre-loved materials. When Emma’s old engagement ring broke, she decided to make a new one from its parts. We used a diamond and the gold from her engagement ring, mixed it with her mum’s heirloom pieces and added an ethically mined rough Queensland sapphire to create this rustic beauty. Emma was smitten from the moment she saw it, calling it “sustainable, meaningful and such a delight”!

I've recommended her to so many friends and family and they're all just as happy as I am with their one-of-a-kind pieces."

"The whole process has been an absolute joy."
"After reading Fairina’s reviews I asked her to create a new ring for me with stones from rings left to me by two very special women in my life: my maternal grandmother and my great-aunt. Fairina brought them together in a simple, stunning piece for me, one that I will cherish forever - thank you, Fairina xo."
Jen Levett, Melbourne

"Fairina was great! I went in with an idea for an engagement ring, but no way to explain it. Fairina was able to decipher what I had in mind and design a piece that was beautiful and unique using heirloom jewellery. It was something truly special."

Frequently asked questions
We're committed to sourcing our materials ethically and transparently, prioritising honesty over greenwashing. This means we don't make vague sustainability claims we can't substantiate.
Sustainability in jewellery can be complex, and we believe in being upfront about the realities. As much as possible, we provide clarity on the claims we make and explain what they mean for you as a customer. For example, while we prioritise gems from suppliers with verified ethical practices, availability can vary depending on your design and supply chain factors.
We prefer to educate you on your options so you can make informed decisions without the marketing hype.
Most gemstones on the market have no information on origin. However we can, and often do, source traceable, ethically-mined diamonds and gemstones. We source gems from Australian merchants, miners and cutters first, including suppliers who restore their mining sites after use, recycle wastewater and are powered by renewable energy.
Mined diamonds are always, at minimum, conflict-free under the Kimberley Process. However, we view this as the bare minimum standard, not a benchmark of ethical sourcing. We believe true responsibility goes beyond the Kimberley Process and will never use this to claim an ethical approach. We also source Australian and Canadian diamonds for those who want more confidence in the origin of their stones.
All the lab grown diamonds we offer are 100% carbon neutral under our partnership with Clear Neutral.
Our gold, silver and platinum come from Sydney-based metal merchants, including two Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) certified suppliers.
The RJC is a not-for-profit organisation that plays a crucial role in promoting responsible practices and ethical standards within the global jewellery and watch industry.
While each merchant has a different approach, they all invest in minimising their impact with strong environmental management plans to minimise the release of harmful substances, including state-of-the-art systems to treat air, remove heavy metals and recycle wastewater.
100% Australian precious metals, including gold and platinum, can be sourced on request.
